WJFC Stands Against Violence: Participating in the Sammy D Foundation Violence Prevention Round

At Walkerville Junior Football Club, we believe in the power of sport to shape positive attitudes and behaviours in our community. This past weekend, we proudly participated in the Sammy D Foundation Violence Prevention Round, joining junior teams from various South Australian sporting codes in taking a stand against violence and bullying.

Since 2021, the Sammy D Foundation has led the charge in increasing awareness and changing community attitudes toward violence. This initiative has grown significantly over the years, and in 2024, it continues to expand, welcoming even more sports and teams to join the cause.

A Weekend of Awareness

Throughout the weekend, our players donned blue armbands for all games, symbolising our commitment to promoting a safe and supportive environment for all. This powerful visual statement aimed to raise awareness about the importance of violence prevention and the role we all play in fostering a positive community.

Participating in this round alongside SANFL, Football South Australia, Rugby Union SA, Volleyball SA, and NRL SA, we were also joined by Touch Football SA and the Southern Football League. Together, all these sporting codes are sending a clear message: in South Australia, we want our kids to keep engaging in sport and enjoying all the benefits it brings, and we want our adult teams to model good behaviour for the juniors.

A United Stand: NO to Violence, YES to Mateship

The theme for this year’s Violence Prevention Round was simple but powerful: say NO to violence and YES to mateship. This message resonates deeply with our values at Walkerville Junior Football Club. We understand that sport is more than just a game; it’s a platform for teaching respect, teamwork, and community spirit.

Full Club Participation

We are incredibly proud to announce that all grades from Walkerville Junior Football Club participated in this important initiative. From our youngest Auskick players to our senior teams, everyone played their part in standing up against violence. The weekend was a testament to the strength and unity of our club and our commitment to making a difference.

Our players, coaches, and supporters embraced the opportunity to be part of something bigger than the game itself. By wearing the blue armbands, they showed their support for the Sammy D Foundation’s mission and demonstrated their dedication to creating a safer, more inclusive environment for all.

Looking Ahead

As we reflect on the success of the Violence Prevention Round, we are inspired to continue promoting these values throughout the year. Walkerville Junior Football Club is committed to fostering an environment where respect and mateship are at the forefront of everything we do. We believe that by setting this example, we can help shape a brighter future for our community.
